After 658 days without a UWL football game and having his first season as head coached nixed due to COVID, it’s safe to say Matt Janus was eager to get 2021 off to a good start.
The Eagles offense was electric both through the air and on the ground, gaining 411 yards of total offense in a 42-21 win over Dakota State in Madison, South Dakota. New Eagle quarterback transfer Jakob Parks played very well, going 18-28 with 178 yards and three passing touchdowns, while Cade Garcia also got reps at the quarterback position and wen 5-7 with two passing TDs and an interception. Running back Joey Stutzman also played well to the tune of 118 yards and 20 carries with a score to boot.
Defensively, UWL recorded four sacks on the day with a pick for Austin Larson as well.
The Eagles will be at Roger Harring Stadium this weekend looking to start 2-0 with Dubuque coming to town.
