As the dust cleared from girl’s sectional final basketball today, the Coulee Region will once again be represented at state. And it’s fitting that of the three victorious teams today, two of them will be playing for the gold ball at the La Crosse Center.
Onalaska, Aquinas, and Bangor are playing on next week after a 55-33 win over Rice Lake, 84-58 victory over St. Croix Falls, and 67-55 triumph over Auburndale respectively.
Player highlights include a 36 point performance from Aquinas junior Jacy Weisbrod (at halftime, Weisbrod already had 6 3’s), an 18 point day for Ona’s leading scorer Olivia Gamoke, and 20 from Bangor’s Nora Tucker. The Bangor win was the closest game, and were it not for a 22-5 run the Cardinals may not have lived past today.
Bangor will play at the Center on Thursday to open things while Onalaska starts Saturday. Aquinas plays their first of hopefully two games Friday at Menominee Nation Arena in Oshkosh.
