In my newest installment of our High School Football Preview, I mentioned how despite all the craziness with the NFL and the amount of COVID-19 positives popping up around the league, that at least high school football seemed to be trending in the right direction with few area game cancellations or postponements.
I really need to learn to just stop typing these thoughts out loud for the sake of a quick attempt at humor.
Yesterday afternoon, we learned that #1 (Class 2A) Caledonia would have to wait another week to try and win their 70th straight game after their match up tonight against Stewartville was cancelled. This appears to be despite the wishes of Coach Carl Fruechte and the Warriors, and they are still scheduled to face Dover-Eyota next week (We’ll have that game on ESPN La Crosse 105.5 at Noon Saturday, October 24th!). Then today, Luther AD Joel Babinec announced that due to COVID-19 positive test and close contact quarantining, tonight’s Luther-Iowa/Grant game was also cancelled. That’s the second athletic contest Luther has cancelled this week after suspending their volleyball season on Thursday.
Fingers crossed for no more changes to this week’s schedule, as we head out to West Salem this evening for the Panthers and Timberwolves. Our coverage begins with the High School Football Preview Show at 6pm!
