In December Mike was diagnosed with carcinomasarcoma. It is a very rare type of tumor and even more rare to be found in the liver and in someone so young. It came as a shock to all of us. After meeting with Doctors at the UW Cancer Center in Madison the next step was to do an embolization. This procedure blocked off the blood flow to the lobe of the liver with the cancer. This would cause the other healthy lobe to grow since the liver is the one organ that can regenerate itself. That procedure was done January 26th and everything went well. They wanted to give the liver about 5-6 weeks to increase in size. After that he would have surgery to have the one lobe removed. On February 28th Mike went in for a MRI prior to scheduling the surgery and unfortunately it was not the news we wanted to hear. The scan showed that the tumor had grown and there were additional lesions found. So the next step is to start chemotherapy right away. We know we are in for a long journey but Mike is up for the fight to kick this cancer's butt. We as his family & friends are planning a benefit to be help, on 4-22-17 at the Elroy Legion to raise funds to help relieve some of the financial burden Mike has & will endure over the treatment process. We humbly request any donation: monetary, auction items or raffle items. Thank you, for all the support, prayers and donations.
